I can tell you that others use two or more monitors, and that you will have much better luck getting help if you review the recommend reading paying particular attention to the forum guidelines section 7, and do not hijack threads. I have the same hardware as the OP and the same problem, although I'm using the elrepo drivers as suggested.

I have no problems using one monitor (from the DVI socket), but if I try to connect the single monitor via one of the displayport sockets or try to use two monitors, I get nothing.

Does anyone know if this is supposed to work?

Hello and welcome to CentOS fora.

I advise some necessary reading for all new members:

Now, regarding your problem:

For start, I suggest you remove both the dkms and the driver from nVidia website, and replace 'em with the one from the ELRepo repository (package kmod-nvidia), but configure the Yum Repository Priorities first, of course.

ELRepo provides a kABI nVidia driver which supports your hardware, is kernel independent, packaged as an .rpm, and with it, you won't have to reinstall it every time you install and boot a new kernel.

Sadly, I have very little experience with two monitors attached to one VGA card... and have never witnessed what you're describing.

But regardless, for start I warmly recommend you replace these drivers with the one from ELRepo - as you can probably see the benefits yourself.

Dual Monitor Video Card Issues - nVidia Quadro FX 580

Posted by RobertRoyal on 2010/11/24 22:54:44
Greetings,

I have repeatedly installed CentOS 5.5 64-bit on a Dell T3500 with an nVidia Quadro FX 580, in an attempt to get dual monitor support to work to no avail. Everything works fine when just one monitor is plugged in and I do not try to enable or plug in a second monitor. I have installed the Dell DKMS, and the Dell recommended drivers (from Dell site) on one installation, I installed the nVidia drivers (from nVidia site) on another, and have tried with what CentOS loads by default on another. The results are the same every time: When I reboot as directed I get a black screen. I can recover by hard shutdown and unplugging one of the monitors, but that doesn't solve my problem. Has anyone had a similar experience, or have any helpful guidance? I am not very Linux savvy.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. This is for multiple machines in a corporate environment. Thank you in advance.
