loading new kernel stucks
Posted by dr_mabuse on 2012/3/1 18:38:10
I am posting this to this forum, because I have tried installing kernel 2.6.31.6 in both Centos 6 and Ubuntu. Unfortuantely in both
I get the same problem. When I choose the newly installed kernel in the boot loader the screen stops.
I also added nomodeset at the end of linux line in boot menu but nothing changed.
In recovery mode it gives me the following:
loading linux-2.6.version..
loading initial ram disk ...
stops
any helps would be thankful

Redhat backport all security fixes from the kernel mainline to their own kernel so running the latest available will fix any security concerns. They also backport support for new hardware so if you need a newer kernel for hardware support then you may find it in the latest available via yum.
If none of those help and you really need a newer kernel then
ELRepo supply a
3.2.9 kernel-ml in their elrepo-kernel repository.

Moved from 'CentOS 5' to 'CentOS 6' because this is about CentOS 6 kernel installation.
