Tried with kmod-nvidia-295.20-1.el6.elrepo via PackageKit. The nouveau driver package has not been removed, but lsmod correctly shows the nvidia driver and no nouveau: so, seemingly no conflict.
The nvidia X server settings app sees the external projector with its correct resolution.
295-20 is the same release (the most recent as of today) which was giving the freeze/reboot problem when installed directly as NVIDIA-linux-x86_64-295.20.run from the nvidia site; so I would be surprised if it worked fine, but never say never. I'll wait and tell you.
I remember that, after installing NVIDIA-linux-x86_64-295.20.run, I had to adjust the sizes of the characters from preferences/appearance (hope these are the correct names of the menu entries, because now I have them in Italian).
