Can not reach mirror.centos.org, therefore addons on the update fail:

[eddy@localhost ~]$ sudo yum -y update
Loading "fastestmirror" plugin
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
* base: mirror.usonyx.net
* updates: mirror.mel.bkb.net.au
* addons: mirror.centos.org
* extras: mirror.colocity.com
http://mirror.centos.org/centos/5/addons/i386/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 12] Timeout: <urlopen error timed out>
Trying other mirror.
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: addons. Please verify its path and try again

[eddy@localhost ~]$ ping mirror.centos.org
PING mirror.centos.org (91.201.202.12) 56(84) bytes of data.
From gw1.ua-ix-world.host-ua.com (194.28.172.114) icmp_seq=121 Destination Host Unreachable

By now the problem has solved itself as it were. Maybe they restarted the server. Thanks for your reaction.

Yes, I would tend to agree with your analysis.

My apologies. I have just noticed your total post count. I should have previously said --
