Evolution http proxy authentication not working

I'm trying to set up Evolution in Centos 6.2 to load html pages with images using a squid 3.1 proxy which requires authentication. The system settings are working for things like the clock/weather applet, which is able to display the correct temperature. But setting Evolution to "Use System Settings" does not work. It hits the proxy, but the proxy denies it. Setting it up to use manual configuration, checking the "Use Authentication box" and filling in the username and password info appropriately, it still hits the proxy and gets denied. Ive seen the same behavior in Evolution/Gnome 2.26. Is there a known workaround for this? If so, what is it?

Thanks,
Steve Bergman
