I feel like this suggestion would really be great if impelemented. But perhaps CentOS can change the filesystem to the one that is used in GoboLinux? There is backwards compatability with programs that use the traditional Linux file architecture.

CentOS's goal is to be 100% compatible with RHEL.
You need to take this up with RH.

Far as I understand GoboLinux uses symlinks which allows reverse comptability, so I don't think there would be issues.

If it is not in RHEL it would be an issue for CentOS. Does Linux Standard Base (LSB) address your issues?

Still GoboLinux file system can still be made to be 100% compatible with RHEL.
