We have an Win2008R2 SP1 Server with an Directory F:\test, this Directory is a networkshare, inside the Directory are some Directories linked as DFS-Share to another Server.

When we access the this DFS-Shares with an SAMBA Share from Linux, there is an confuse behaviour.

We can Access the Networkshare on the Windows 2008 Server, but when we try to acces the Directory which was linked with DFS to another Server, an we try to
make the comand ls* - we receive the following info.

"ls:Lese Verzeichnis.:Das Object is remote"

and nothing is show in this Directory. But when we go one step back with cd.. and than on step for to the same directory, then we can show the files and folders in this DFS-Share.

We changed the loggin from mount.cifs to an higher level, and then the following error is shown in dmesg.

fs/cifs/transport.c: Sending smb: total_len 140
fs/cifs/connect.c: rfc1002 length 0x27
fs/cifs/connect.c: invalid transact2 word count
Status code returned 0xc0000257 NT_STATUS_PATH_NOT_COVERED
fs/cifs/netmisc.c: Mapping smb error code 3 to POSIX err -66

Has anybody experience with this problem?

Thanks for your help

If you aren't already using them, you will have more luck with the samba3x-* series of packages on CentOS 5 than with the ordinary samba-* ones. They're complete replacements for the old samba 3.0.33 packages which need to be completely uninstalled and the new samba3x-* ones installed. These will give you 3.5.10 and stand a much better chance of working with newer versions of Windows.

Searching on that error message got me a redhat bugzilla entry for Fedora 14 but that one ends up with a server misconfiguration it seems. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=682829

There are quite a few other hits on google when searching for "Status code returned 0xc0000257 NT_STATUS_PATH_NOT_COVERED" but none of them seemed to have an immediate solution but could be worth a read anyway since they may have some hints you can explore.
