No idea what might have gone wrong. Perhaps the resolution has changed and the virtual screen is larger than the physical one so you are only seeing a part of it. Please provide more information about your system by running "./getinfo.sh" and showing us the output file.

If necessary boot to runlevel 1, AKA single user mode to debug. Interrupt GRUB by typing a character such as "space" then append to the kernel line by typing "a", backspacing through "rhgb quiet" and append " 1<enter>". This should give you a root shell and not a login prompt. You should then be able to look at log files such as /var/log/messages and /var/log/Xorg.* . You can also boot to full multiuser text mode with networking by using "3" rather that "1".

Since a few days, my Login Box does not appear after booting. Made all updates yesterday.. I tried to login blindly, means I do NOT SEE , only guess that i am entering in the right input field.

The Background image (blue with some bubbles) is shown. After some trial and error experiments, i found my way into my desktop ..

Have not changed anything, at least intended.

Compiz is enabled, with desktops rotating on a cube.
