I agree with booting to runlevel 3 - text mode - or single user if that fails. If you get on in runlevel 3 then running a "yum update" is highly recommended as the current/supported release is 5.7.

If more help is needed then (preferably after updating) please provide more information about your system by running "./getinfo.sh" and showing us the output file.

1) While you should have a backup, you don't need it here.

2) You do not need X to money with a database.

It's been a very long time since I'm messed with X on Linux. Way back when, we had to run XF86Setup to properly configure it.

What I would do is drop to runlevel 1, edit /etc/inittab to enter runlevel 3 instead of 5, and then init 3 That should get you able to log in from the command line and get your backups, do your database work, and hack on the X issue.

Hi guys!

while booting centos 5.5 before getting login screen the below info is coming and unable to go to GUI interface.But i need GUI how?

"Failed to start the x server (your graphic interface) Its likely that it is not setup correctly.would like to view the x server output to diagnoes the problem"-yes or no


But if we press YES we are getting nothing except blue screen.

Kinldy help us how to take complete system backup becasue i have imp mysql data base.
