Your first post clearly shows that yum update does indeed have a problem updating the packages.
The box is not functioning as normal. |

This is a production server and the rebuild the box with all the apps will take time. Besides, the box is functioning as normal. yum-updates has no problem updating the packages. I don't really have a good reason to ask my manager for 1 day of work time for rebuilding it.
I guess I'll need to check how yum-updates does it compared to running from the command line. |

In this case I recommend you save yourself the trouble and simply reinstall the system. It's just not worth trying to fix anything from this point. |

I got the output below when trying to start yum from the command line. At one time, I compiled and installed python from the tar source over the rpm installation. This is probably the cause of the problem. I have tried to uninstall/reinstall yum, python, a few times, but problem persists.
However, yum-updatesd seems to work fine. All packages are up to date and I received the notification when new packages are installed. ==== ~> yum update 'import site' failed; use -v for traceback There was a problem importing one of the Python modules required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was: No module named yum Please install a package which provides this module, or verify that the module is installed correctly. It's possible that the above module doesn't match the current version of Python, which is: 2.4.3 (#1, Sep 21 2011, 20:06:00) [GCC 4.1.2 20080704 (Red Hat 4.1.2-51)] If you cannot solve this problem yourself, please go to the yum faq at: http://wiki.linux.duke.edu/YumFaq ==== Current settings: CentOS 5.7 Kernel 2.6.18-274.18.1.el5 (from rpm -aq) yum-3.2.22-37.el5.centos python-2.4.3-44.el5_7.1 |
