Hi

Well to finish this off. While trying to get this to boot up it got to the point where it would not even boot to the bios. At a tech's suggestion I removed all hard drives and tried again. And with a new hard drive I was able to reload her operating system.
It appears the problem was caused by a Virus.

Thanks
JIm

Hi

Trying ot recover a Dell gx620 that has died. It has winxp loaded and wont boot suggesting that the r option be used when booted from the installation cd.

Booting from the centos6.2 live cd gets the following

uncompression error
Kernel panic – not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown -block(0,0)

A very similar error is output by puppy linux lupu.

Anyone have an idea what is causing this error??

Thanks for your time
JIm
