... but don't let that stop you from lighting a fire under the administrator to apply security and bug-fix errata updates - in other words "yum update".

Or you need to obtain a copy of the application that is built to run on CentOS 5 and not on CentOS 6.

It seems that there is nothing I can do. The administrator will have to update the system.

Thank you all for your help.

Someone else could update it.

The key point is that the executable is not going to work on CentOS-5 at all, due to the requirement for a newer libstdc++ than provided.

The OP says, "I do not have sudo access to that machine so I cannot make updates." There lies the problem.

Welcome to the CentOS fora. Please see the recommended reading for new users linked in my signature.

That program is too new for CentOS-5.8, never mind the obsolete and unsupported 5.6. A "yum update" is strongly recommended.

It would probably work on CentOS-6.2, but that would require a fresh install, or could be run via virtualization

If you told us what the program is/does we might be able to suggest an appropriate package or alternative.

You probably won't be able to run the program, but what is your general goal?

Also I do not have the source code of the program, only the binary, so I cannot recompile.

Hello,

I am trying to run a C++ binary program to a remote computer but I get the following error

./program: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.11' not found (required by ./program)

The operating system is CentOS release 5.6 (Final)

I do not have sudo access to that machine so I cannot make updates. Is there a way I can run this program?

Thank you
