Does not sound like a good solution to me. I'd say leave the topic open for now. Somebody may yet suggest a more robust solution.

Hi,
I am using release 5.8 and i always keep the system updated. I did not check that Red Hat Bugzilla thingy and just searched CentOS forum itself. But the bugs are related to release 5.5 & 5.6 and so... How do i change an inactive panel's preferences --- am hoping that unhiding it will make it come back. Is there any other method/trick to activate the panel? |

Have you looked at upstream bugs? Are you up to date with "yum update"?

HI,
i am using update 5.8 on my desktop. After the update from 5.7 to 5.8 this issue has happened twice and the only way i know is to reboot the system. I autohide the top gnome panel and every time i keep hibernating the system when i am not working on it. Twice before and presently now the top panel is not reappearing and neither are the ikons on it responding. What is the way out as i use 5 workspaces and have multiple windows open & so rebooting is irritating. There is no pattern to this buggy thing - just happens arbitrarily. Thanks. |
