Hello there.
Issue: Screen resolution cannot be changed in Nvidia-settings display configuration panel. Stuck at 800x600 or lower. Also, display is not detected.
Status: Happy Status until day-before --->> was using CentOS 5.5 or lower && used Nvidia GeForce 8400/9400 cards && Nvidia drivers for linux from the nvidia site. Not-happy status now --->> CentOS 5.7 or 5.8. Nvidia Quadro FX 600.
Process followed before: Download driver from nvidia website. init 3, sh *.run file, init 5. Displays used to be detected and resolutions were fine and graphics was fine.
Process followed now: Same. but result is different!
After reading from forums I tried the elrepo driver installation as well. Blacklisted nouveau .... etc. No success.
Vesa driver loads of course, but not of much use.
lspci gives>> VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF108 [Quadro 600] (rev a1)
I noticed two things (hopefully clues??): 1. CentOS 5.7 on another machine with GeForce cards also does not detect display but at least resolution is changeable in nvidia settings. 2. Quadro 600 card does not have a VGA port. So, am using an adapter from DVI to VGA and then connecting the monitor.
Phil, Pardon the newbie-ness. I did go to the links in your signature and breezed through the content. Tried to post accordingly :)
Any help from the forum is appreciated.

p.s: This is my first post on this forum - mech engineer by background. But have been using CentOS 4/5 for the last 4 years very satisfactorily for running some mechanical engineering simulation applications. This forum has been very very valuable to an extent that I did not need to post !
