Re: A Yum Update Puzzle

Desertcat, the difficulties with vlc are anticipated in the Release Notes https://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOS7.1908?action=show&redirect=Manuals%2FReleaseNotes%2FCentOS7 Like you suggested we'll have to wait for nux-dextop to catch up. The release notes also suggest --exclude freerdp...

Re: Promising KDE presentation during login, which then disappears

The graphics in your first image aren't icons. They are part of a so-called "spash screen" animation that just tells you that KDE is starting normally. Once the startup process is finished these disappear. I think it's "working as designed". You can certainly customize your desktop, fonts, and icon ...

Re: GNOME login problem after yum update

yes, I do. I have Nvidia GeForce 730 and it works fine. Ah that is very interesting. Are you getting the driver from ELRepo? That was another piece of advice I got in my post. Mine is now locked on the 390-xx driver due to my elderly Quadro 2000 card. There's a YUM plugin to make sure that stays at...

Re: GNOME login problem after yum update

Seems that different problems have the same symptoms. Indeed. Curiously I also experienced similar libcairo issues that you documented above. From my install notebook: ERROR: /lib64/libcairo.so.2: undefined symbol: FT_Get_Var_Design_Coordinates libnvidia-gtk3.so: cannot open shared object file: No ...

Re: GNOME login problem after yum update

I experienced the exact symptoms you describe, when I updated to CentOS 7.6. GNOME login attempts would bounce right back to the login screen while KDE worked OK. For me, the solution was to reinstall the following packages shared-mime-info gdk-pixbuf2 gdk-pixbuf2-devel I don't think it can hurt to ...

Re: vlc audio problem centos 7

Since the VLC program starts and appears to be capable of playing audio through your system, maybe one of the various Effects settings got changed. Check the Tools --> Effects and Filters GUI and make sure no odd effects are enabled.

Re: Recent Update Causes CIFS Mount Failure

I and at least one other poster here had to add

vers=3.0

to our mount command lines after the update to CentOS 7.6. Separate it from other arguments with a comma.

Re: KDE Discover

I have CentOS 7.6 at work but run Kubuntu 18.04/Ubuntu Studio at home. Discover is indeed part of Plasma 5.x (I have 5.12.7). As far as I know it was not included in KDE 4.x versions. It has had its share of rough edges and been the subject of a lot of criticism over the past few years. I still pref...

Re: No space on root

You mentioned that cleaning the YUM cache isn't helping, but did you try telling YUM to put its cache somewhere else, where there's more room?

Re: CIFS is not working after update

Same issue here last week, after the 7.6(1810) update. In my case I needed to add ...,vers=3.0 to get the CIFS shares to mount reliably.
