Re: Leaving CentOS as a viable OS

"It's for adults only" - I LOLed. It sounds like OP would be happier in ubuntu land. I haven't looked at Cent8. I'm waiting for the STIG to be released. But 7 is still supported. So use 7. The kinks will get worked out of 8, then move to 8. Anaconda is difficult to learn, and not for the faint of he...

Re: software raid resynchs too much

For anyone else who may encounter this problem. It was bad sectors on one of the drives kicking off the resync repeatedly. After replacing the bad drive it did 2 more resyncs (which made me nervous) but then stopped after that.

[Resolved] software raid resynchs too much

I have an HP server with 40+TB linux software raid 6 with a hot spare. For the past week the server has been resyncing. It has done this at least 3 times that I’ve witnessed. It completes it just fine after several hours, but it will randomly begin to resynch again. I’ve disabled /etc/cron.d/raid-ch...

Re: [STUMPED] user can't log in, but renamed user2 can.

yes I tried passwd. the passwd works just fine. I can set the user password. And that password works just fine for the user2 but not for user. I highly doubt it is a reserved word. How would I find out? The account name contains 5 letters and a number. And it isn't user1 or user2. There is no chance...

[STUMPED] user can't log in, but renamed user2 can.

I have created a local user account named user. Which is a common service account used across our network. I have give this user a good password and all required group membership. And it can't log in. As root I can su - user but then I can't execute any sudo commands that require a password. I then ...

Re: selinux disables its self

Figured it out guys, Thanks. It was a script running from a place that I wasn't expecting. I thought I had disabled it but apparently not. The auid hint did help.

Re: selinux disables its self

I highly doubt I've been hacked due to the other layers of protection on this server. It doesn't even have internet access. permissive, not disabled. Sorry. I see entries similar to the following which implies something is turning it off and then not turning it back on. root@server:/var/log/audit# g...
