Re: RHEL 8 released
Does anyone know how long before we see CentOS 8 released?
Re: RHEL 8 released
No. There isn't even an approximate estimate. RHEL 8 just dropped today. Not all of it has made it to git.centos.org yet and the rebuild is only just starting. This is a brand new version and many things have changed, not least in the build process where we now have appstreams/modules to worry about as well as standard rpm packages.
It'll be ready when it's ready and not before. Personally I would be amazed if anything was out within a month, probably longer. But that's just my own personal guess based on nothing much.

The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Re: RHEL 8 released
I'm not sure this is an answer. "It will be ready when it's ready and not before" is true for everything in life. I was looking more for some educated guesses. It took about 1 month for CentOS to release versions 4,5, and 7 after RHEL released in GA. It took about 8 months to release version 6 according to what I could find online. And maybe someone on the forum in on the inside of the development team and can speak up.
Re: RHEL 8 released
There are more changes in RHEL 8 from the point of view of building it than in any other previous version. As those are all unknowns at this point, any speculation as to when it will be complete would be based on nothing but guesswork. As I have already said, I am not expecting this to be a quick rebuild.

Ah! I won't be able to sleep now. You shouldn't have pulled the 6 month one... :Safroehlich wrote: ↑2019/05/07 17:24:13It took about 8 months to release version 6 according to what I could find online.

Re: RHEL 8 released
So I did some chasing and a mail was just sent out detailing how you can keep track of the current progress:
Hi,
As everybody is probably aware now, RHEL 8.0 was released earlier this
week .
Instead of publishing multiple blog posts here and then point to updated
content, we decided this time to have a dedicated wiki page that can be
used to track our current status : https://wiki.centos.org/About/Building_8
So now you can look at that page while we're busy on those tasks, and
refresh from time to time.
Let's spread the news about the wiki page and point people (on
mailing-lists, irc, forums, etc) to that page to get all latest news
about CentOS 8.0.1905 build status !
Cheers !

Re: RHEL 8 released
Will it be possible to migrate from a beta/RC build of Centos 8 to the final build?
Or is it too early to tell?
