Deader than a doornail.

This place is like a wasteland. It's almost impossible to get any help here.
I know CentOS is pretty popular and it's being used on a large scale so how so?

well... truth hurts

people using centos are mostly professionals who know what they are doing and don't need much help. Even if they do need some help, they usually work among other similar professionals who will provide enough help.

and most of them don't really care to waste their time helping others over the internet.

personally, I like helping others because I've received lots of help over the years... though my old age cynicism doesn't help much...

CentOS Social may be moribund, but between 2305 yesterday and 1502 today there were 65 posts to the forum. That's a pretty lively nail.

And the quality of the help that you receive is usually directly proportional to the amount of information that you supply regarding the problem. It also helps if the information is both relevant and accurate!
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
