suggestion

Post by peppi » 2015/02/07 16:07:01

i am new to centos and come from debian
i choose centos because of the web pannel

the first thing i notice is the netinstall does not work with static ip adres
i have a static ip adres and a unusual netmask

debain gives the option to configure the network setup manually this is all automatic
on centos i did not get that option

so maybe i am doing something wrong or this option is not build in to centos

There is a possibility to configure the IP address, netmask, default gateway and DNS servers manually in the installer.

As was said, you should be able to do it manually. You may have to manually turn on the ethernet as well. I think it is off by default.
New users should check the FAQ and Read Me First pages

Yeah, at install you have to switch it on (although you can switch it on post install in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-<eth_name> i.e.: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 - assuming any recent version of CentOS, except for CentOS 7 - for 7, the file is /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-<NIC_name>).
