installer spoofing

Post by JazzMan11 » 2015/07/17 23:23:03

Ok, like the installer and all (for all the bugs its worth) but it has an issue on CentOS that needs fixing.
MINIMAL installation media cant contain more than a base install.YET, there you go with all the fancy schmancy bells and whistles of a FULL install medium. Select anything other than MINIMAL, go ahead. You AINT GONNA GET IT.
:D
Choose what you will but all of your choices will be ignored, as all you have is the base media. You get dropped into a shell on reboot. Some install.
Ive been around since RedHat5 and before than on windows.I grew up on the PCjr.
If there is only a CD there, we should grey out what cant installed or isnt available. MINIMAL is just that. You get a console. Not much else. Lucky you.
Hope you know your way around.
Wifi is always a R-PITA from the console.Wired, not so much.

We should warn people about this.

The only BUG I can see is that the RHEL versions expect a packages repository from the base cd, there arent any packages on the disc. You simply have to supply your own if using that particular media.

This is really funny though because people like blag pack a cdrom all the time with a UI. BLAG uses MATE/GNOME2+.It can obviously fit if you bother to pack it in.BLAG comes pretty loaded for whats on the cd.

You cannot install more from the minimal CD than is on the minimal CD itself. It is documented in the readme file that's in the same directory as all the ISO images where it says
CentOS-7-x86_64-Minimal-1503-01.iso
The aim of this image is to install a very basic CentOS 7 system, with the
minimum of packages needed to have a functional system. Please burn this image
onto a CD and boot your computer off it. A preselected set of packages will be
installed on your system. Everything else needs to be installed using yum. The set
of packages installed by this image is identical to the one installed when choosing
the group named "Minimal" from the full DVD image.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

The minimal CD is just the standard installer on a CD with the minimal packages to get a bootable machine.
It is for experts who know what they are doing, not for beginners.
If you want a full install you need the full DVD.
The readme file in the downloads directory describes each image.

I'd also add that this is documented in the CentOS 7 (1503) Release Notes http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOS7 as the very first bullet point in the Known Issues section.
