It wanted to know

Post by burjans » 2006/12/27 14:28:39

It wanted to know if in the version of CentOS 5 better support for Apt will be included, packages like: Php5, MySql 5, Ejabberd, Xen and other free ones, are a question and simultaneously a suggestion, I believe that it would be good for fortifying the alternative Apt not like herarrienta to the Yum but like another option but so that the user can choose between both (Yum or APT) with which feels better

As yum is now officially included in RHEL5 (Beta), and therefore CentOS5, yum is the preferred way to go.

There will be no official apt support, howver the new apt can use repomd data, so you will be able to use it on the standard CentOS repos.

BTW ... all those packages you mentioned are in the CentOSPlus repository ... and if you modify your apt setup, you can get them via apt now for CentOS-4. CentOS just does not come with the CentOSPlus repository enabled by default.

I do recommend that you use yum, however, with CentOSPlus ... as it is safer to use the yum-plugin-fastestmirror and yum-plugin-priorities to prevent upgrading items that you would rather not upgrade.
