Retrieving /install.img... 43% stuck

Post by postcd » 2019/09/23 19:38:32

Hello,

i have downloaded 6.10 i386 iso (http://isoredirect.centos.org/centos/6/isos/i386/ - http://centos.mirror.constant.com/6.10/isos/i386/), Netinstall one.

Then tried to let it retrieve images from centos.org or from http://centos.mirror.constant.com/6.10/os/i386/ it always get stuck on 43%:

Retrieving /install.img... 43%

When i do Alt+F4 it shows some console output:
some INFO and a few notices regarding NetworkManager
WARNING loader: error -2147483630 reading header: cpio: read failed - Success
WARNING loader: error -2147483630 reading header: cpio: read failed - Success
INFO rsyslogd:-- MARK --

Alt+F3 shows that it was also looking for updates.img and product.img but not found these. Transferring ...install.img is most recent message on F3.

At a guess, perhaps you don't have enough RAM available to unpack or even download the various image files that are required just to start the installer.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Yes, this is low RAM computer (512+256MB module=approx.700MB while install.img is only 139M).
Can i add anything particular into boot parameters so the installer will process images without problem please?
The computer (laptop) has single HDD slot and i can connect USB flash disk as a storage.
Unsure if minimal install ISO (not Netinstall) would make any difference.

Try adding ramdisk_size=100000 to the kernel command line when you see the isolinux "Install" menu at the start.

Maybe i understood wrong, this is what i just did:
i see the CDROM centos 6.10 netinstall boot menu where i highlight "Install or upgrade an existing system" and i do Tab key and see boot command:
vmlinuz initrd=initrd.img
and i make it
vmlinuz initrd=initrd.img ramdisk_size=100000
and it stuck at 43% again
