Time to buy some DVD-R blanks

I switched over to DVD+R years ago for some reason.... (speed or price or something)

I just realized I have no DVD-R discs around anymore....

Was just reading the release notes and saw this...
The i386 DVD is just a bit too large to fit on normal single layer DVD+R media. It can be burnt succesfully on DVD-R.
So... thought i'd do a poll and see if anyone else is like me and going to have to go out for DVD-R blanks....

8-)

CENTOS 6 is finally out!!!!! AWESOME!

I used a double layer DVD blank to burn the image yesterday. I was scolded for downloading a preliminary image and was told that it was still not final. Perhaps the final will be divided into a couple of standard size DVD images. I did not know that a DVD- was different in size from a DVD+. You learn something every day.

Heh, I wound up using a Dual layer +R disc too... :)

i knew they were different sizes, i just never really have seen it come up....

ImgBurn told me that it was 5MB too large for DVD+R, amazing it came down to just that much space....

i can see it causing headaches for the developers/or support team.... because a lot of people are NOT going to read the release notes... and complain....

i actually WISH they'd do a single ISO (dual-layer) for the 64-bit release.... but i'm messing around with the 32-bit first (desktop)..... my server is runnin' just fine on 5.6 for the time being ;)

My UltraISO says 14MB overload.

Remove whole file named texlive-texmf-doc-2007-35.el6.noarch.rpm from /Packages (175MB) and recompile your iso image.
I have iso image capacity 4.420MB.

Hmm -- I've always used DVD-R[W] and not DVD+R. I never realised that there was a capacity difference. :-o

I've also just used DVD+R for no reason, other than they work on my system. However, the CentOS home page does state:
CentOS 6 Releases
...
LiveCDs and LiveDVDs for i386 and x86_64 will be released the next few days. These will bring in the ability to directly install from the live media.

There will also be a minimal install CD, that would bring up a base machine with just enough content to have a usable platform.

In order to bring back the CentOS-4 Server CD style single iso image, an LWS variant of the main distro will be created.
...
So I think I'll wait and give the LiveCD a spin.

I had no issue with install of a overburned DVD-R disk for my first couple of tests :-D

Yes, I had a problem with CentOS 6.0 and my DVD+R discs (that's all I use). Not until now did I know what was causing the problem. I now have two really nice "coasters" to put my coffee cup on in the morning. I do have a few dual-layer discs but I hate to waste them in such a manner (they're rather expensive). Think I'll go to town and track down a 5-pack of DVD-Rs tomorrow.

Well...at least now I know. :-? .

Later...
