Gnome panel missing

Post by srivo » 2011/07/13 02:28:55

Install went fine but after logging I end up in a blanck screen with no gnome panel. I try killall gnome-panel but nothing appear!

Look like I also have no network connection. I tried yum update and a message tell me that it was unable to reach the server. When i tried to ping my router the system tell me there is no network connection.

Looking through your earlier posts, I can see you were never properly welcomed; let me correct that:
Welcome to the CentOS fora. New users are encouraged to do the recommended reading, as linked in my signature.

Had you done that, you would have realized you have hardly given us anything to work with.
Please provide more info about your system, as outlined in one of the linked items.

I know this thread is pretty old but I still haven't solve this problem. I recently reinstall Centos 6 and I still have this problem. When I execute system-config-network a terminal window open with the possibility to configure the card but I can't see any option to start it!

I know there is some issue with the the library that generate the gnome panel so I'm stuck in the terminal window. What's the command the start the network manager in graphical mode?

Thanks!

All right, network is working, I reinstall it and setup the network in the install to start automatically!

But gnome-panel is still missing!

if `rpm -q gnome-panel` says that it isn't installed then `yum install gnome-panel` should fix it

Have you tried creating and testing with a new user to see if the problem is specific to the setup of the user account?

Just a guess. But on the login screen, is there a box to choose your environment? Maybe it is on default? Pull down the menu and choose gnome. Then login. If thats not it, you have a more serious problem.
