The plan is to remove eth0 once all traffic is coming via eth4.

I have set eth0 to a dhcp interface and lost access to eth4 (set as static ip address) too.

So need to figure out where is screwing up
What you should do is bond the two physical NICs into one logical interface. As long as you use the correct bond option, you can remove one of the NICs and the bond will continue to work.

Can do, but at the moment, cant get one of the 10GB ports up!

Do you have a 10GB fibre Nic in a centos box?

I would also change the NM_CONTROLLED value to "no".

Thanks, looks like we have a cabling issue with the fibres although these are new cables.

Thanks all for your help,

Upgrading Centos 6.5 > 6.X where could I go to see documentation?

All doc is on docs.redhat.com or wiki.centos.org. You should read the release notes from both for all releases between your current one and 6.10 (the latest).

Issue was polarity on the fibre ports, which is why ports were going down!
