Migrating from Debian 5 (Lenny) to Centos

Post by dremonie » 2015/12/03 18:58:01

In migration I would like to keep things similar as possible. I don't want dependencies and lib version to cause problems with apps installed. Which version of Centos is most like Lenny?

If you're going to the bother of migrating from an obsolete operating system then you'd better make sure you migrate to something that isn't obsolete already. That means picking either CentOS 6 or 7 (EOL dates 2020 and 2024).
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Thank you for your input, I agree.

Do you see any possible issues migrating a application from Debian 5 (lenny) 32-bit to Centos 6/7 64-bit? I'm trying to do as much pregame planning as possible before I attempt to execute.

Sorry, no idea but I'd guess that that Debian is so old that you may well experience problems. The only way you will find out is to try it though.
