Can not boot to Centos
Re: Can not boot to Centos
Please please please do NOT run CentOS 5.6. It dates from January 2011 so it's more than 5 years old and is absolutely crammed with exploitable security vulnerabilities. Start by trying with the 5.11 media and see if that helps.
I should also add that CentOS 5 has less than 1 year of life left before it reaches EOL. You might want to consider using CentOS 6 instead (CentOS 7 probably won't support all the hardware on that ancient machine).

The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Re: Can not boot to Centos
Yes, you should have installed 5.11, but to answer your question it sounds like you accidentally installed CentOS on the USB flash drive. There's a point in the installation where you have to change the drive order so that the boot record goes on the hard drive and not the USB. The default is the USB and you have to move it down in the list. I don't remember the exact place it has to be done but there's a button marked (I think) Advanced Boot Options.
