Cantos 5 rescue mode from DVD iso on a bootable USB

Post by joshlobo4289 » 2016/05/26 16:00:02

Hi Centos Forum

I am trying to rescue a server that is failing to boot . I have created a bootable USB using RUFUS and when greeted with the boot: prompt .I type "linux rescue" to enter rescue mode after selecting language as well keyboard type I select hard-disk when asked what kind of media contains the rescue image and choose my USB (mounted on /dev/sdd1) but it says it cant find a Centos CD Rom Image . I then Press F-2 for the advanced mounting options and can see the contents of my USB .But i do not know what the installer is looking for .I have googled a lot but I could not find anyone with this problem Please help me out I really need to get the server to boot.

Sincerely
Joshua Lobo

In the absence of any other solution, you could just boot a CentOS 6 iso image dd'ed to a USB stick as that's known to work. I am not sure if the CentOS 5 images were ever tested with dd and usb and since there won't be any new ones...
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
