It would not have installed at all if your image had been corrupted. Did you try apropos now, today, after the cron job for makewhatis ran overnight?

Don't use 5.7, it's old and insecure and unsupported. The latest CentOS 5 is 5.11 but be aware that the end of life date for CentOS 5 is rapidly approaching and there will be no more updates for it after March 2017.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Apropos is still not working. Will try later today. 5.7 is the only thing that will run my scanner w/out problems. When I run 5.11, Nautilus crashes when I open scanned .jpeg. Do I need to worry about security if that computer is not connected to the internet? or my LAN? I use it to run old SCSI scanner and old large format printer. Seems a shame to throw away perfectly good equipment just because new distros wont work with them. I am waiting for more powerful processor to arrive so I can try CentOS 7 LiveGNOME 1511 32bit. The AMD Athlon 1.2 Ghz won't run it.
