LSI Raid installation - Mondoarchive

Post by antonk » 2016/09/12 12:18:08

Hi ,

I have a running Centos 5.6 installation with a LSI hardware raid which are mounted under LABEL=/boot & LABEL=/ & LABEL=SWAP-ddf1_4c534.

The grub device mapper says: /boot/grub/device.map

# this device map was generated by anaconda
(hd0) /dev/mapper/ddf1_4c53492020202020808627c3000000004711471100001450

fdisk says:

Disk /dev/sda: 1000.2 GB, 1000204886016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121601 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 13 104391 83 Linux
/dev/sda2 14 139 1012095 82 Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sda3 140 121454 974462737+ 83 Linux

Disk /dev/sdb: 1000.2 GB, 1000204886016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121601 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1 * 1 13 104391 83 Linux
/dev/sdb2 14 139 1012095 82 Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sdb3 140 121454 974462737+ 83 Linux

Disk /dev/dm-0: 998.9 GB, 998999326720 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121454 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/dm-0p1 * 1 13 104391 83 Linux
/dev/dm-0p2 14 139 1012095 82 Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/dm-0p3 140 121454 974462737+ 83 Linux

I am a total new beginner on this point and do not understand how the hardware raid is being mapped. So this is my first question.

To backup the system is used mondoarchive.

Now I want to migrate the system to another system with almost the same configuration using the same LSI raid.

Also that system does have a LSI raid but when using the restore disk the partitions are referred to /dev/mapper/ddf1_4c53492020202020808627c3000000004711471100001450. Then I want to make new partitions for the new system (delete the typical partitions of the old system) and create new.
I have no idea how I can create new partitions using the LSI raid.

I did google a lot but mosty solutions do refer to software raid using mdam. But since this is a hardware raid I should expect another solution??

Hopefully someone can help.
