Trouble With MySQL

Post by jmcdiarmid_uk » 2015/01/29 17:21:47

Hi all

Im having trouble with MySQL. When I try to connect to the server I receive the following message

Code: Select all

ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)
I have noticed when I run

Code: Select all

service mysqld stop
This returns the stopping ok message. However when I run afterwards

Code: Select all

service mysqld status
It sends back

Code: Select all

mysqld (pid 20600) is running...
I then ran the status command a few more time and noticed the PID is constantly increasing

Code: Select all

mysqld (pid 21835) is running...
[root@s15333475 log]# service mysqld status
mysqld (pid 21927) is running...
[root@s15333475 log]# service mysqld status
mysqld (pid 21988) is running...
[root@s15333475 log]# service mysqld status
mysqld (pid 21988) is running...
[root@s15333475 log]# service mysqld status
mysqld (pid 22079) is running...
[root@s15333475 log]# service mysqld status
mysqld (pid 22079) is running...
This is still coming up even though I have stopped the service

Hopefully someone can help!

Cheers

Look in /var/log/mysqld.log
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

This could be because you hit a bug. It is also possible that this binary
or one of the libraries it was linked against is corrupt, improperly built,
or misconfigured. This error can also be caused by malfunctioning hardware.
We will try our best to scrape up some info that will hopefully help
diagnose the problem, but since we have already crashed,
something is definitely wrong and this may fail.

key_buffer_size=8388608
read_buffer_size=131072

connection_count=0
It is possible that mysqld could use up to
key_buffer_size + (read_buffer_size + sort_buffer_size)*max_threads = 338554 K  bytes of memory
Hope that's ok; if not, decrease some variables in the equation.

I assume you're using the MySQL client?

If so, it's trying to connect to the server through the socket located in /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock. Does that exist? Who owns it? What SELinux context is it?

His problem is that the daemon is crashing not that he doesn't have permission to the socket.

I think this looks like time to boot and run memtest86+ on that machine for a day or so and see if the memory is OK.
