Dell OptiPlex 9020 question

Post by kevintang » 2013/11/05 08:24:32

Dear all,

I am planning to purchase Dell OptiPlex 9020 PC.
The chipset is Intel Q87 Express with Intel i7-4770 CPU, and nVidia GeForce GTX 645 1GG DDR5 display card.

Does anyone know CentOS 5.x support Q87 chipset? and CentOS 5.x support GTX-645 display card?

Thank you very much

You will stand more chance of getting CentOS 6.4 to install on that machine. Having said that, I don't know of any reason why it shouldn't install - especially if you use the text installer and aim to use the nvidia proprietary drivers for the video card. You should look up on the nvidia site to make sure that card is supported by their drivers and, if it is, you can use the kmod-nvidia drivers from the ELRepo repository,
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

The easiest way to determine if your Nvidia device is supported and if so by which kmod will be to run nvidia-detect [1] from ELRepo. Then install the appropriate kmod-nvidia package [2] from the same repo.

Hi All,

I have Dell Optiplex 9020 PC with following details.
Chipset: Intel 8 series c220 chipset family

I am trying to install CentOS 6.4 in it, initially it shown "Hardware not support by CentOS" , I had forcible installation.
But after screen lock the display become blur and system hang up. Whet drivers exactly need to resolve this issue. Where can i get them.

I had call with dell support team, they said that that system was tested for Windows & ubuntu only. Any one had successful installation without issues. please let me know any solution.

Thanks in advance

Regards,
Harinath.

You might try with 6.5 as support for Haswell on-board graphics was added.
