ata01 error message

Post by jaygo » 2014/08/13 09:47:22

Hi,

I've just installed Centos 5.10 in a new HP ProLiant ML350p Gen 8 server, w/ P420i as its smart array controller, and has 4 300GB SAS Hard DIsk, Raid setup is 1+0
Every time the server boots, an error message always appears, how do you fix this?
Please see error Message Below, Thanks in advance

ata1:.01: exception Emask 0x10 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x4050000 action 0x0 frozen

What do you have attached to the SATA controller? It's not your disks on the P420 since those will be owned by the cciss module and will appear under /dev/cciss/c0dX

I suspect this is more likely to be your DVD drive?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

I just checked dmesg on one of my Proliant DL360p gen8's and I do not have a similar message there but I am not even sure if mine have DVD drives!

It doesn't look normal but at the same time, since your disks are all on the RAID controller, I don't think it's anything to worry about over much. I guess you could call HP and ask them (or mail them). Better to ask now while it's still new enough so they can't argue about it being under warranty.
