Help me to configure my NIC

Hi,

I am currently in the phase of learning Linux. I have dual OS installed system.(XP, and Cent OS 5).
My NIC is working fine with my XP. but when entering ifconfig command in Cento OS, only the loopback address l0 is displayed.

I tried to edit the file /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg -eth0 but it is not found in my system.

Kindly help me to get this fixed.

I'm sorry my crystal ball is in the shop, I dropped last week so I have no idea which NIC you have :-D

Please inform us, the output from the typed command would be helpful; [b]/sbin/lspci -v[/b]

Start with simple checks like , boot errors ,link and like [b]Lenard [/b] say
search the forum for you're problem before posting it, most of the questions
are already asked and the answers ware given . google may be you're best friend .
any way here are simple steps for that can help us help you

[code]# dmesg |grep Eth
# mii-tool -v
# ifconfig -a

Hint: I used the [b]Search[/b] function above and came up with this http://www.centos.org/search.php?query=Realtek+NIC&andor=AND&mids%5B%5D=30&action=results&submit=Search

At the bottom of that list, click on [b]Show all results[/b] and have a look at the threads listed.

Sorry if this is too obvious, but have you tried running /usr/sbin/system-config-network-tui ?

Ooops. Realtek. Well, after you get a suitable driver loaded, the above command will be useful.
