Wireless not recognized

Post by booangler » 2014/05/16 00:34:55

Hello All,

First, this is my first attempt at learning Linux. I started with CentOS for no other reason that I recently interviewed with a company that uses CentOS on their servers.

So I installed Centos 6.5 on a Compaq 60z-200 that I had laying around. The install went well except once the install was completed I had no wireless, and I would really like to be wireless since it is a laptop. I looked through some online posts for help but to no avail. For example I looked at this link;
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/NetworkManager
However it appears that Network Manager is running on my laptop as I see that the Network Manager Applet 0.8.1 is running.

So, what do I do next?

Thanks

Boo

The driver for this wireles card is closed source, and not included in the kernel by default.

You can install a driver from here: http://elrepo.org/tiki/wl-kmod

I have Linksys Wireless-G WPC54G version 2. I am trying to build a relatively old laptop with this old card. I eventually realized that this card is not capable of WPA security, so even after going through ndiswrapper routine, I gave up on it.

I have bought TP-LINK N150 Wireless Nano USB Adapter (TL-WN725N) and I am hoping that this card is going to be plug-n-play with CentOS. Could anyone please confirm?
