Internet Access Issues
Internet Access Issues
I'm not new Linux but I am new to networking.
Some users are acting like root. With root I only have accessing to a certain number of sites and this is replicated with users with basic user rights. What can I do to change this?

If you can load other websites, it is a problem with the wordpress site.
Your user has no affect on what websites you can browse.

Re: Internet Access Issues
I was thinking along the same line but when I go places like foxnews.com, cnn.com. usatoday.com, wwe.com, cad-comic.com & others. Mozilla will not load them. I'm putting more time into the issue and I'll update if I can figure out what is going on.gerald_clark wrote:If you can load other websites, it is a problem with the wordpress site.

Re: Internet Access Issues
As much as I don't like using anything public over private. It's a little slow but this works. I had to change the nameserver from my local address to a public address.
To do this:
1) You open the /etc/resolve.conf
2) Change the nameserver to 8.8.8.8 (Google's public name server)
You can choose any public nameserver; my assumption. However I'm up for suggestions for public nameservers. I'll take this issue to another sub forum.

Re: Internet Access Issues
Well the nameserver entry must specify a working nameserver.
Re: Internet Access Issues
As a new user, I didn't know this. It took a minute or two to find this out. However it doesn't save. I have to change the nameserver each time I log in. I have to log in as root to change the nameserver.gerald_clark wrote:Well the nameserver entry must specify a working nameserver.

There are 3 possible causes for your problem.
1. Your ifcfg files are incorrect.
2. Your local nameserver is broken.
3. You dhcp server is broken.
