samba to win 8.1

Post by AleksandarSRB » 2015/06/28 14:58:54

Salute friends,

my problem is that i cant connect to win 8.1 machine from CentOS 5.11. It gives me message ACCESS_DENIED. On win, folder is shared as always (everyone etc.) and i dont have a need to see Linux folders from win. My basic need is to send some files from CentOS to Win via samba. To win 7 its working, i remember i had to remove windows live essentials, to set network and share folder and that was all. On win 8.1 i dont know what to do. If anyone cuold help i would appreciate.

Thanks

Do rpm -qa samba|* and see what packages you have installed now. If they are not already the ones called samba3x* then uninstall them and install the equivaltly named samba3x-* ones instead. They certainly work for Win7, unsure about 8.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Version is samba-3.0.33-3.40.el5_10, I think it is something with Win 8.1 setting. Don't know what :(

Thanks for reply

You need to use the samba3x* packages.

Well, it was minor problem on Win 8.1 some network security in local security policy, somehow it works. But not proper. I tried to send some file from 5.11 to Win 8.1. it goes but empty file. After i tried from CentOS 6.5 it worked ok. So i tried to install samba 3x, downloaded pakckages but conflict appears. If u can tell me procedure to install Samba 3x i would be very thankful.

Thanks

As I said in my initial post, you need to rpm -qa samba\* and make a list of the currently installed ones, remove those and install the samba3x* versions instead.
