Hi,
I just installed centos 5.8. I am new to the linux environment.
I am unable to resolve http://mirrorlist.centos.org though i can ping to mirrorlist.centos.org with httpp://
Things that I have already tried:
1. ensured internet is working.
2. I can telnet to port 80.
3. Added iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT
4 service iptables restart
5 service httpd start
Please suggest me what else I can try
centos server 5.8 unable to resolve http
Re: centos server 5.8 unable to resolve http
You may have missed the news that CentOS 5 is end of life. This means CentOS 5 has been removed from mirrors and it will not get any more updates, ever.
Please consider using either CentOS 6 or CentOS 7.

Also, 5.8 isn't even the latest unsupported CentOS 5 - that's 5.11. Your best idea is to nuke what you've done now and reinstall using 7.4.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
