64 Bit Oracle 9i Installation on CentOS 64 Bit

Hello,

I have a new server - Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5450 @ 3.00GHz with 8 processors
Total RAM of 32 GB

I have installed CentOS 5 64 Bit.
Linux 2.6.18-53.el5 #1 SMP Mon Nov 12 02:14:55 EST 2007 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

When I try to install 64 Bit Oracle 9i - the installation hangs at 17% copying the file naeet.o
Tye sultuion suggested is to - set the kernel enviironment variable LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.2
After I do this I am stuck with the error -
"/bin/sh: error while loading shared libraries: libdl.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

Q 1) Is there a way I can resolve the above error ? Is it possible to install Oracle 9i 64 bit on 64 bit OS.
Search in various forums leads me to think that support for installing Oracle 9i 64 bit on a 64 bit
OS is very limited and is very tricky -

Q 2) As an alternative is it possible for me to install 32 bit oracle 9i on the 64 bit OS.
I am now stuck with the error "cannot fine libjava.so"
Once again what I want to know is if it is worth trying this approach.

The only other easy way out for me is to reinstall a 32 bit OS on my 64 bit machine and
install oracle 9i. This should be straight forward but I dont want to loose on the performance my server offers with 32 GB of RAM.

I cannot offer you any help with respect to installing that particular version of [b]Oracle[/b] but I would like to comment on the version of the OS you are currently running.

Please run [b]yum update[/b] as soon as possible. I am concerned that you are still using the 2.6.18-53.el5 kernel, as all kernels (either [b]CentOS[/b] or [b]RHEL[/b]) of the -53 series [b]before[/b] -53.1.13 are insecure and can be a target for a local root exploit.

FYI, the current kernel is 2.6.18-53.1.14.el5

Oracle 9i is not supported with CentOS 5.

You need to use CentOS 4.
