Guernsey
Guernsey
Hi,
Not a big deal, more of a bug.
I've installed C5 on a number of machines now and despite selecting Europe/London as my location during the install phase when I login Date & Time in Control Panel always shows my timezone as Europe/GG (Guernsey) - which is wrong.
Setting it to Europe/London doesn't work as it goes back to Europe/GG next time CP is opened. ntp keeps the time correct though.
Just wanted to tell someone in the hope that it makes it up the tree.

Re: Guernsey
Lenard,
Thanks for the reply.
I did as was suggested in the link you posted.
Prior to that though, with date my zone is correctly given as BST
The contents of clock are;
ZONE="Europe/London"
UTC=true
ARC=false
so no need to modify that.
I made the suggested link for localtime.
However, kcontrol still shows the current local zone as Europe/GG (also BST)
Odd!

Re: Guernsey
What does the command 'cat /etc/timezone' show?
Re: Guernsey
Europe/London
Re: Guernsey
Then you timezone is set correctly. You may want to go into the KDE Control Center (for example) and adjust.
Re: Guernsey
Ah! But that's the thing... if I open KDE Control Center and change the setting from Europe/GG to Europe/London -> Apply -> OK, close, reopen KDE Control Center it is back to Europe/GG.
The change is setting doesn't seem to get saved.
And if KDE Control Center is reading the timezone and/or the localtime file why does it report my TZ as Guersey?
It's just one of the those wee niggles that is so bugging when the OS is supposed to be moving forward.
Mind you I have bigger issues with C5.
I have a dozen workstations running C5/i386 and all are AMD64's. I started to migrate them to C5/x86_64.
All was going well using a Golden Image to upgrade each machine until I got to one which completely hangs during boot.
It appears to be down to whether I use the default nv display driver or the NVidia one - the NVidia one hangs but appears to compile fine.
The installed packages and configurations are the same between i386 and x86_64 and this machine worked fine with the NVidia driver under i386.
But as soon as I reboot after replacing nv with nvidia in xorg.conf I have a hung system.

Re: Guernsey
Then I suggest using the rpmforge-release package directions here; http://dag.wieers.com/rpm/FAQ.php#B
When done do: yum install dkms nvidia-x11-drv
Also try exiting out of the GUI session completely.

I had Something similar in KDE, I think it was displaying Los Angeles time instead of my local time. If you rightclick on the date/time display on the KDE bar then choose "show timezone" You can then select which timezone is displayed.

Re: Guernsey
Lenard,
Yep! I tried using both the 9631 DAG rpm and the latest (9755) but got the same result - system hang!
One question though. When installing the DAG rpms do you still need to change nv to nvidia in xorg.conf manually?
When I installed the rpm xorg.conf didn't change until I ran nvidia-xconfig
