Search function is a little wonky

Post by memilanuk » 2009/11/10 01:31:29

When I scroll down and type something in the 'quick' Search form (the one-liner at the bottom of a forum page) and hit 'Enter', it seems like the focus has gone to the [Advanced Search] url instead of the 'Search' button, as it takes me to a blank Advanced search page. *Clicking* on the button works, but simply hitting Enter does not give the expected effect.

Also... when trying to select which forums to search in (once in the Advanced search) is, forgive me for saying, a complete mess. *All* the subforums for Centos 3, 4, 5, etc. etc. etc. are listed, and in no particular or logical order. It is an absolute pain in the neck to try and scroll through and cntrl-click just the CentOS 5 subforums, for example.

Thanks for all your efforts,

Monte

Six months and no changes. I guess everyone else is okay with a search function that only returns one page of results? I thought there was some progress going to be made as far as updating the forum software to something a little more usable, or at least a color scheme not quite so garish and hard on the eyeballs?

Thank you for updating this thread, Monte.

Unfortunately that issue is not something that we, the forum moderators, can resolve.

It may be worthwhile raising this issue on the CentOS Developers' Mailing List, quoting this thread and the following two mail threads --

Alan,

I'll take a look... I'd kind of backed off CentOS in general after a bad experience on #centos. Coming back (glutton for punishment, I guess) I was disappointed to see that (apparently) little had changed on the site. It just seems like too nice a distro to be ham-strung by the forum software.

We all seem to muddle by, but if it is too difficult for you, you might try IRC.

Wow. I guess you don't mind a broken search function on the forum?

Yes, I have to agree with you Monte. But, as Gerald said --

And that I can confirm, having known him for long enough, was typed with a wry smile . . .

Please, let's not squabble amongst ourselves -- the users. None of us like the situation, so let us make use of what we currently have and compensate for the problematical areas as best as we can.

Monte,

If you are still willing, and able to spare some time commit to the project, perhaps you should "sync-up" with both Marcus Möller and Karanbir Singh -- as I suggested in the CentOS-devel m/l thread.
