Cannot install CentOS 7 on laptop

Post by Kimosabe2015 » 2017/03/29 20:10:07

I've been trying all afternoon to install CentOS 7 on my Windows 10 laptop. I've installed Cygwin for Windows and used the dd if=CentOS-7-x86_64-DVD-1611.iso of=/dev/sdf which sdf was the label for my USB stick. It boots from the USB but stops at the first screen of "Install CentOS Linux 7". I press the install option and get:

error file: /images/pxeboot/vmlinuz not found. Press any key to continue..

I've googled and searched but there are threads not being answered for this exact same problem. I've also like a lot of other people used Rufus, Lili USB Creator, Unetbootin to create this bootable USB and have hit problems all along the way until I used Cygwin for Windows. This is the farthest I've gotten so far.

Any suggestions?

dd if=CentOS-6.5-x86_64-bin-DVD1.iso
6.5?

I'd also check the sha256sum of your downloaded iso file against the lsit published in the CentOS release notes for your version. Using dd should just work.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Hi Trevor!

Sorry about the typo...it should have said CentOS-7-DVD.iso. From where I am currently on the Install screen, can I enter command prompt and enter in a new path or something?

Please make sure that the sha256sum of the iso file that you have downloaded matches the list in https://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/Release ... %2FCentOS7 before you write it to a USB stick.

Make sure you read http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey before you write that iso to your USB stick as there are a number of utilities that corrupt the CentOS isos as they "copy" them to USB.
