Hi Trevor,

I am sorry to have disturbed you by an e-mail too. My processor is a 32 bit one and the make is: Intel Core i3 2100 @ 310 GHz (Sandy Bridge 32 nm technology). Which CentOS may I be able to download then. Please advise.

Hi Trevor,

A quick mail again. I have found a 32 bit version: CentOS-7-i386-Beta-Minimal-1503.iso on the web. Is this OK for my processor, is there a final version too (this appears to be a beta version only). And is there perhaps a 32 bit CentOS-8 version available?

Intel claims that i3-2100 is 64-bit:

Hi Trevor,

I tried to post my answer but it did seem to go through so I repeat. My Windows 7 PC has a processor:
Intel(R) Core (TM) i3-2100 CPU at 3.10 GHz

I found a CentOS -7 32 bit version on your website but it is a beta version. Is there an updated version?
Also does CentOS-8 has 32 versions?

Hi Trevor,

I checked my processor on the Intel site and it is 64 bit, but I am using win 7 which is probably 32 bit. So why I cannot install the following iso:

(CentOS-7-i386-Minimal -1810.iso) on a 64 gigabyte pendrive. I used Etcher but it says that" this ISO is not a bootable image, it does not appear to contain a partition table and might not be bootable".

Should I do something to my pendrive first (like creating a partition on it). I thought Etcher does this job...?

Your processor is 64-bit so install the standard 64-bit version. Your Windows version is irrelevant.

The https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey mentions a tool: "Win32 Disk Imager".

A recent thread commented how another tool, "Rufus", by default does things that it should not do with CentOS image. Perhaps your "Etcher" (never heard of) is like Rufus; not easy?

If you do use Windows, then you can see whether it is 32 bit or 64 bit. There is no uncertainty.
However, as said, the version(s) of other OS(s) do(es) not matter; hardware does and yours is 64 bit.

You should use the 64 bit version of CentOS. It's better supported, has more available third party yum repos and on most hardware, it'll probably be quicker.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

HI Trevor,

I have checked and my processor in my windows 7 home version PC is a 64 bit one (Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2100 CPU at 3.1 GHz). So I have no conflict between ISO (64 bit) and processor (64 bit). Then why I cannot boot CentOS-7-i386-Minimal-1810.iso when flashed by Etcher onto my pendrive?
Do I need to partition my pendrive first (I thought this job is done by Etcher)?

OK Trevor, indeed it might be a floppy job done by Etcher. I will now try the Universal -USB-Installer. Then I report again to you.
