BIOS or UEFI on new server?

Post by Jhonmicky » 2019/07/10 09:07:16

Hello everyone,,
I'm about to install a new server and I wonder if BIOS or UEFI is better.
Do you have any experience or recommendations?
A related question; the hardware raids were created in UEFI mode - does that matter if I use BIOS?
I've done a bit of web searching and didn't find any definite answers…

Personally I still use legacy BIOS but I don't think it makes much difference though it appears to me that there is more to go wrong with UEFI setups. I don't think it makes any difference whether you create a RAID array in either mode since it will be blank and the difference would be whether or not the "disk" has a GPT label and that's put there by software.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

If you have >= 2TB of storage or if you want to use secure boot, UEFI is the way to go. I'd say if you don't have a specific need to use BIOS, use UEFI. It's the current way of doing these things.

This.

I use UEFI whenever I can.
