I have been dealing with trying to get samba working consistently for at least a couple months now, and its the same result.
The requirements are simple:
1. Allow CentOS to authenticate against active directory (domain and subdomain)
2. Allow users to access their home directories from windows in file explorer
Backround info:
We originally had a separate openldap server that got the users (my predecessor set it up) from AD and allowed us to login to the CentOS server with AD credentials without using the FQDN at all (username instead of username@domain or domain\username.
I have tried SSSD, it is not supported for samba.
I currently am trying winbind but that requires the FQDN if you wish to get to users in the subdomain and on top of that: it is not allowing me to login with my test user that is in the subdomian at all either.
I am not sure if Owncloud would be the solution or not, I am open to syning home directories with a separate server if need be, whatever gets this to work.
If this service would work with SSSD that is preferred.
