CentOS 7.7 Due Out Soon?!?
CentOS 7.7 Due Out Soon?!?
Wonder if TrevorH or someone in the know can tell me if CentOS 7.7 is due out soon. I just ran yum update and got that it planned to update kmod-nvidia from kmod-nvidia.x86_64 0:430.40-1.el7_6.elrepo will be updated --> kmod-nvidia-430.40-2.el7_7.elrepo.x86_64 (elrepo), followed by a whole bunch of kernel dependency errors. I then ran yum update --exclude=kmod-nvidia which solved the problem. Is there any hint of either RHEL 7.7 or CentOS 7.7 due out soon?!?
Re: CentOS 7.7 Due Out Soon?!?
You have been here long enough to know that CentOS 7.7 "will be released when it is ready". Yes, RHEL 7.7 was released a few days ago. Feel free to read its release notes in the meantime.
Re: CentOS 7.7 Due Out Soon?!?
kmod-nvidia failed on you?
i asked a similar question, about rhel 7.6.xx going to rhel 7.7.yy does centos follow in lockstep with that kernel update within the major version.
it does, and was out within that week.
I'd be interested in finding out actually how long... couple days or couple weeks or couple months, that it does take from release of rhel 7.7 do we see centos 7.7
be a pal and when it happens post the date

Re: CentOS 7.7 Due Out Soon?!?
ELRepo is built for RHEL. It just happens to work on CentOS. When a new RHEL comes out, ELRepo build kmod packages against it so that RHEL users can use them. CentOS users will still be on 7.6 and will need to use the older non-7.7 packages.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Re: CentOS 7.7 Due Out Soon?!?
Back in my Fedora days, I quickly learned that when a weekly 'update' fails - let it! If, after a month, it still fails - start investigating. That philosophy has saved me so much work! I know - tough to walk away ...

Re: CentOS 7.7 Due Out Soon?!?
Thanks Avij. I was totally unaware that RHEL 7.7 had been released. My first clue was the errant Kmod-Nvidia. For some strange reason I was under the mistaken impression that RHEL 7.7 had been released a month ago, not a few days ago. Oh well I guess it is almost time to start thinking of buttoning up 7.6, and backing the entire thing up... just in case the CentOS 7.7 (When it does come out ... whenever that is) roll-over throws a hissy fit.avij wrote: ↑2019/08/08 05:08:53You have been here long enough to know that CentOS 7.7 "will be released when it is ready". Thanks for the reply.

Re: CentOS 7.7 Due Out Soon?!?
There is a yum plugin on the ElRepo site which should stop yum failing when Centos and RHEL are out of step
