can't access samba share after kernel update

Post by dave76 » 2019/08/15 16:55:21

We have had Samba running just fine for several years. Recently, after a kernel update, we can see the shares but cannot access them. Typically we get a message to the effect 'network name is no longer available'. The temporary fix is to boot off an older kernel. The last kernel that works for us is 3.10.0-957.21.2. Anything more recent and Samba behaves as above. So I guess the question is what changed in the kernel after the version mentioned which affects Samba. Anyone have an ideas?

SMB/CIFS server connection stalls accessing files using kernel-3.10.0-957.21.3.el7 - https://bugs.centos.org//view.php?id=16242

You can install the current CentOS Plus kernel (--enablerepo=centosplus) which has this fix rolled into it already or you can wait for Redhat to get around to fixing it eventually!
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
