Hi All,
Is it possible to copy id_rsa and id_rsa.pub from an old machine to a new one to maintain the sftp/ssh accesses ( without passwords ) that we had on the old machine to various others ftp servers ?

Yes.
Though you might want to review it and see if it is still fit for purpose. For example, old ssh-keygen used to default to creating 1024 bit keys and the latest uses 2048 or 4096 by default.
Make sure that if you copy it over, you have the right selinux contexts on the files - they can be set by running restorecon -RFv against ~/.ssh

The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
