Hi I have a Dell T105 with an adaptec 2940U2/U2W connected to a IBM ultrium 3850 Lto-2.
I've been running Centos 6.5 no problem tape works fine. I've tried to upgrade to Centos 7 and I can no longer see the tape. Looking at the /proc/scsi it doesn't recognize the scsi card.
I replaced the card with a spare 29320lp which I have. The scsi card appeared to be recognised and the Tape drive detected but showed the Tape drive is identified as a disk!! and I cant access it via the normal tools
Has Centos\rhel 7 dropped support for this HW??
Adaptec 2940U2 IBM Ult3850 support
Re: Adaptec 2940U2 IBM Ult3850 support
Probably. Many older "legacy" drivers have been removed from el7 and the 2940 series are now about 10 years old so it's not unlikely.
Google tells me that were around in 2000 so more like 15 years...

The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Thanks for the reply.
Any thoughts on the second configuration.
The Adaptec 29320lp is recognised but the tape IBM Ultrium 3850 is shown as a disk/

Re: Adaptec 2940U2 IBM Ult3850 support
Is it seen as a disk by the on-board Adaptec BIOS configuration? Been a long time since I used one but there's a page there that shows you all SCSI ids and what devices are attached.

Re: Adaptec 2940U2 IBM Ult3850 support
Hi
I accessed the adaptec Bios and it showed the device as a IBM ULT3850-TD2
I'm assuming the OS recognises it as a a tape or disk... unless the drive has been removed from the list?
Thanks
Greg.
