Install CentOS7 on HP ML110 G7 with BIOS Raid

Post by screwtape » 2014/10/05 16:29:58

Hi,

I'm trying to install CentOS 7 on my HP ML110 G7 server with BIOS Raid 1+0, but CentOS doesn't recognise the raid array. I understand this was a problem with G5s on CentOS 6 but the fixes for that issue don't work, and I can't seem to find any reference to a problem with G7s.

Anyone able to enlighten me?

Thanks in advance!

Screwtape.

So is the driver for the raid array loaded? Try lsmod to see which drivers (well kernel modules actually) are loaded. Older (I think the G5) version where obvious as to what they where - but that's from memory.

BIOS RAID == FakeRAID which is unsupported on any linux distro. Put the thing in AHCI mode in the controller BIOS and use Linux software RAID.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
